I work in a public school because . . . "My dad was a teacher in a public school. I have always grown up in a public school and could not imagine teaching somewhere else. I think it gives us a chance to work with many different types of students from many different backgrounds."

Some of our teachers are sharing this week why they teach at a public school. One teacher wrote: "I work in a public school to be a part of something bigger than myself. I am a member of a community, and we collectively live and work together to enrich all of our lives."

The South Putnam Music Department Showcase is coming up soon!

Congratulations to Ashton Nichols for being named the January Student of the Month for South Putnam High School, Ms. Jones nominated Ashton and she said the following about Ashton.
Ashton stands out from the rest due to his capacity for genuine empathy. Many students of Ashton's age have not yet developed the ability to truly imagine what it must be like to walk in another person's shoes. Ashton, however, seems to understand this deeply. Ashton regularly takes it upon himself to work with students who need help, even when he probably doesn't feel like leaving his friend group. He always makes an effort to include everyone. To me, this is a clear indication of Ashton's capacity for kindness and empathy, as well as his leadership skills. This is exactly the type of thing teachers hope to see in their students. Ashton sets an example for his friends, spreading kindness wherever he goes.

It was Senior Night! Families came out to support their senior athletes and cheer on our Eagles Boys Basketball team as they played a close, exciting, hard-fought game against Indian Creek.

Good Sunday evening, Eagles! This is just a friendly reminder that tomorrow, Monday, February 19th, Presidents Day, no students will be in attendance physically or virtually. Instead, this is a scheduled staff professional development day built into the school calendar. Thanks, and have a great rest of your three-day weekend! Dr. Smith

Good luck to Elizabeth Dobson who will be competing in the State bowling competition this Sunday in Anderson. Elizabeth will be representing South Putnam in the State tournament organized by the Indiana Bowling Centers Association. She is one of the top 20 bowlers in the state. Congratulations, Elizabeth!
