It was a great boys track Sectional tonight at Terre Haute North! There were many strong performances. Congratulations to Wyatt Switzer for 2nd place finishes and Regional berths in both the 110 and 300 hurdles. Congratulations to Ben Teipen on a 3rd place throw in disc. He is also going to Regionals. The 4x8 team of Dunkin York, Keaton Chew, Gabe Feltner and Evan Hinkle had a 4th place finish and may move on. Well done everyone!
We are pleased to welcome Helen Eaglin to our South Putnam staff as a new Ag teacher and FFA advisor. Helen, a 2019 South Putnam grad, is coming back home after distinguishing herself at Purdue University as the ASEC Outstanding Senior. Faculty at Purdue speak of her exceptional work, insightful discussion, strong work ethic, integrity and empathy. During her time at Purdue, Helen was also a member of the Reamer Club and served as the pilot of the Boilermaker Special. Helen joins Amanda Line and Cameron Frazier and expands our already successful Ag program which was recently selected as the IAAE Outstanding Ag Program.
Mr. Pruitt handed out trivia "trophies" today! Congratulations to the Homeroom teams who correctly answered the most number of questions about teachers! Mrs. Hodge's team was particularly proud today that they had a better score on questions about Samantha Jones than her sister McKenna's homeroom.
Coach Sorrell had students working hard in the weight room today trying to achieve max weight in bench.
Congratulations to Bailey Brickert on her second place finish at last night's Terre Haute North Sectional in the 100 meter hurdles and berth in next week's Regional.
Congratulations to Sarah Hinchman and the Spanish Club for their design and rendering of a mural in Mrs. Kate Hudson's classroom! They planned it to incorporate a day and night theme and many elements from Spanish speaking countries. Sarah roughed in the design, and she and other students have been filling it in. Thank you for beautifying your classroom.
Last week I was in classrooms where students were testing bridge designs in science, budgeting a cross country driving trip in math class, testing the probability of random events in another math class and writing research essays in English.
Last week ended on a yummy note with cinnamon rolls donated by Anthony and Karen Heavin, a basket of sweet snacks gifted by Greencastle Presbyterian Church, chocolate fountain treats donated by SP Student Council and lunch discounted by Wally's BBQ. Thank you to everyone who made last week a special one for our teachers! Thank you also to Cortney Branam and Rachelle Custis for their hard work coordinating a lot of the food.

Area 30 Career Center Senior Awards were presented today. Congratulations to our seniors for their work completing programs, earning certifications and gaining valuable employability skills. Congratulations also to Ryan Deaton for earning a $2000 Jack and Shirley Dalton Scholarship.
We wrapped up AP testing today with AP World and AP Physics! AP World students were ready to knock out the test! Thank you Mrs. Henry. Physics students showed their amazing potential! Thank you Mrs. Dickson for taking on a whole new subject to open up this opportunity to students!
The feasting has continued this week for Teacher Appreciation Week! Kevin Rounds brought in donuts yesterday. Tom Standers and the National Honor Society provided cinnamon rolls and coffee this morning for all staff. Lunch Chick-fil-A sandwiches were provided through a donation by EF coordinated through Brady Rhodes. We have several EF trips currently available for South Putnam students to places including the Dominican Republic, Italy, Greece, Spain and France. Chips, salsa and dip were provided by Courtney Williams and Sarah Hayman.
Yesterday was School Nurse Day, and we celebrated Hannah Scott! Thank you for her work, empathy and kindness toward our students.
It's Teacher Appreciation Week, and we have been treated to lunch by Troy Burgess and the athletic department and North Salem State Bank! Thank you for your generosity! Thank you teachers for your creative, determined, and infinitely patient, hard work! Oh, and Cameron had a birthday!!!!
The South Putnam Music Department would like to invite you to the Spring Music Festival, Friday, May 19th starting at 6:30 pm. The festival will include dinner and a concert. Tickets are $10 at the door. Please see the attached flyer for more details.
The 2023 Summa Cum Laude Banquet was incredible this evening! Each senior who achieved a 4.0 or higher GPA for their high school career honored a special educator this evening. Students spoke with gratitude about the blessing of their empathy, kindness, grace and patience. They talked about challenges and hardships, but also opportunities and successes. Students thanked their teachers and coaches for their life-changing impact, heart-transforming pride and hope-inducing belief in them as people. It was a night of smiles, tears, laughter, love and memories. As Brock said, "I will always remember my time as a South Putnam Eagle."
Seven down - Students powered through AP Calculus and AP Computer Science. Thank you to Mrs. Dickson, Mrs. Hodge and Mr. Zimmerman for giving them the knowledge and determination to do well!
