Q: Why would Eagles ever wear purple? A: Tease Mr. Yowell

Congratulations to the South Putnam men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams. They both won the Putnam County Championship.

We all celebrated with Mr. Yowell and Mrs. Sykes! Thank you for everything you’ve done for South Putnam students!

The South Putnam swimming and diving team is competing in the county meet at DePauw. Good luck to all of our athletes.

This week students in Homeroom had fun creatively decorating classroom doors. Mr. Frazier’s class won the high school and Mrs. Carranza’s class won the middle school. The office staff were in a class of their own with a clever display of “Yowell-tide Greetings.”

Big win! Big crowd! Big night at the Eagles Nest!

It was an exciting night Thursday as South Putnam High School Varsity swim team competed at Edgewood in a three-way meet including West Vigo! They picked up quality wins against good competition. The #wetbirds set personal records and season bests in race after race.

Congratulations to Madison Newby the DAR Good Citizen Award finalist from South Putnam High School. The award “recognizes and rewards high school seniors who possess the qualities of dependability, service, leadership and patriotism in their homes, schools and communities.” In her essay Newby wrote about the “polarized” nation and the need for good citizen “to bring people together.” She stated, “The actions of a good citizen will ensure that the community around them has the ability to compromise and reach a common goal for the betterment of the population.” Well done, Madison!

As you know, Central Elementary has been closed and utilizing virtual learning for the last two days. Unfortunately, we received word from the Putnam County Health Department this afternoon that Central Elementary will need to be closed for one additional day. Therefore, on Thursday, December 8th, Central Elementary, and ONLY Central Elementary, will again have eLearning.
There may be other impacts to district activities but look for those announcements directly from those activity sponsors.
Again, as directed by the Putnam County Health Department, Central Elementary, and ONLY Central Elementary, will be closed and utilizing eLearning on Thursday, December 8th. If any further updates become available, we will be sure to provide timely and informative updates.
Stay safe and healthy, Eagles!

South Putnam Middle School boys home against Greencastle. 8th grade gets the victory!

Good afternoon,
Earlier today, I sent out several notifications to Central Elementary parents regarding the closing of the Central Elementary building on Tuesday, December 6th, and Wednesday, December 7th, as a precaution against increasing sickness and absences. Working in coordination with the Putnam County Health Department, this closure was due to increased absences above the threshold for Putnam County Health Department guidelines. Therefore, to continue the learning processes, Central Elementary, and ONLY Central Elementary, will have eLearning on both days.
We understand that this temporary building closure has had some impact on other district activities as well, but we will continue to monitor and open the building just as soon as possible.
Again, due to increased absences due to sickness, Central Elementary, and ONLY Central Elementary, will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday, with eLearning on both days. If any further updates are required, we will be sure to provide timely and informative updates.
Stay safe and healthy, Eagles!
Dr. Smith

Congratulations to Marilyn Andersen on being named the South Putnam High School student of the month.

Andrew Cline was our most recent South Putnam Middle School Student of the Month. Andrew was nominated by Mr. Zach Errett. He wrote: “Andrew is not only a great student in class, but he is also a great leader. Andrew has a great work ethic and makes sure he completes all of the assignments at a high level. What has also been great is that he will routinely help other students on assignments. Andrew has the ability to work with many different types of students. No matter the level or personality, he ensures that they work together and perform well. It is noticeable that his classmates look to him as a leader.” Congratulations Andrew!

SP freshmen, sophomores and juniors participated in workshops led by Karen Nelson Heavin from Heavin College & Career Readiness Services. Students explored ONET Online (a career interest profiler), evaluated theoretical college applicants by qualities, and discussed aspects of communication and collaboration among people with different personality traits in the workplace. These activities help prepare students for their next steps after high school. Thank you Mrs. Heavin!

One of our South Putnam Middle School Students of the Month was Emalyn Tomaw. She was nominated by Mr. Brad Laney. He wrote: “Emalyn has shown both a great work ethic and positive attitude. But on top of that, she is easy to talk to and has committed herself to FFA. She often shares with me just how much she has learned and enjoys FFA. She is a well-rounded student, and I get a sense that her journey through high school will include taking major roles in FFA and lead to something very good for her.” Congratulations Emalyn!

Thank you to the parents who brought in food yesterday for our staff for Thanksgiving! What a blessing for our staff to feel loved by the community!
