Good afternoon,
Earlier today, I sent out several notifications to Central Elementary parents regarding the closing of the Central Elementary building on Tuesday, December 6th, and Wednesday, December 7th, as a precaution against increasing sickness and absences. Working in coordination with the Putnam County Health Department, this closure was due to increased absences above the threshold for Putnam County Health Department guidelines. Therefore, to continue the learning processes, Central Elementary, and ONLY Central Elementary, will have eLearning on both days.
We understand that this temporary building closure has had some impact on other district activities as well, but we will continue to monitor and open the building just as soon as possible.
Again, due to increased absences due to sickness, Central Elementary, and ONLY Central Elementary, will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday, with eLearning on both days. If any further updates are required, we will be sure to provide timely and informative updates.
Stay safe and healthy, Eagles!
Dr. Smith

Congratulations to Marilyn Andersen on being named the South Putnam High School student of the month.
Andrew Cline was our most recent South Putnam Middle School Student of the Month. Andrew was nominated by Mr. Zach Errett. He wrote: “Andrew is not only a great student in class, but he is also a great leader. Andrew has a great work ethic and makes sure he completes all of the assignments at a high level. What has also been great is that he will routinely help other students on assignments. Andrew has the ability to work with many different types of students. No matter the level or personality, he ensures that they work together and perform well. It is noticeable that his classmates look to him as a leader.” Congratulations Andrew!
SP freshmen, sophomores and juniors participated in workshops led by Karen Nelson Heavin from Heavin College & Career Readiness Services. Students explored ONET Online (a career interest profiler), evaluated theoretical college applicants by qualities, and discussed aspects of communication and collaboration among people with different personality traits in the workplace. These activities help prepare students for their next steps after high school. Thank you Mrs. Heavin!
One of our South Putnam Middle School Students of the Month was Emalyn Tomaw. She was nominated by Mr. Brad Laney. He wrote: “Emalyn has shown both a great work ethic and positive attitude. But on top of that, she is easy to talk to and has committed herself to FFA. She often shares with me just how much she has learned and enjoys FFA. She is a well-rounded student, and I get a sense that her journey through high school will include taking major roles in FFA and lead to something very good for her.” Congratulations Emalyn!
Thank you to the parents who brought in food yesterday for our staff for Thanksgiving! What a blessing for our staff to feel loved by the community!
Congratulations to Levi Couch and Kaden Stutsman for winning the Darrel Wiatt Family Philanthropy Essay. Levi honored his dad, Nathan Couch, Pastor of Bethel Baptist Church. Levi spoke of his generosity, kindness and hard work. He stated his dad’s actions show an “incredible amount of kindness and incredible love for people in general.” Kaden wrote about his mother, C.J. Troyer who works at South Putnam High School. He praised her kindness, concern for students, and volunteer work. He said he is proud of her. “My sister and I are so lucky to be raised by her and the kids at South Putnam are so lucky to have her.” Thank you to Narda Cotton and Dean Gambill from the Putnam County Community Foundation. Thank you also to the Wiatt family for supporting this contest.

A great start to the season for the South Putnam Girls Basketball teams! JV and Varsity teams beat Cloverdale at home.
Our middle school spell bowl team competed Wednesday night and earned 2nd place in the contest and was in the top 10 for our entire area. Special congratulations to Melissa Anderson for a perfect score during her round spelling all 9 of her words correctly. Great job Eagles!
It was an exciting start to the season for the South Putnam Middle School Boys Basketball teams home against Cascade. 8th grade got the victory, and 7th grade brought it to within 3 at the end of their game.
Good afternoon! Just a friendly reminder that tomorrow, Friday, November 4th, students will not be in the school buildings but completing E-Learning assignments. Teachers will participate in professional development activities and check student progress throughout the day. Stay safe, Eagles!
October is National Principals Month. Thank you Mr. Yowell for being an awesome principal! Who else starts the day whistling, climbs around a construction zone on Facebook Live, challenges people to do push ups and other hard things while giving their #1more, and also makes grace part of his educational philosophy. Thank you for being our team leader, fighting for our school, and making this an awesome place for all of us!
It was a special night on Wildman Field. Our South Putnam Eagles played against the Linton Miners. The Indiana National Guard landed a UH-60 Blackhawk for Hometown Jersey Night. Our youth football players were introduced and over $500 was raised for breast cancer awareness.
Special thanks to Bob, Cindy, Claude, Carol and Dustyn for their hard work at South Putnam Middle and High School. You all are the best!
Congratulations to Lincoln Hochstetler for being selected as the High School Student of the Month. He was nominated by Mrs Dickson. She wrote “This is my third year having Lincoln in class, and I have him 3 periods a day this year. He is in my AP calculus class, AP Physics class, and he is my TA during one period. It has been a joy to see Lincoln grow up over the last few years. He is taking a lot of difficult classes, and he is really pushing himself this year. I am nominating him for student of the month because he has gone out of his way repeatedly to make things easier and less stressful for me. Some examples of this are him cleaning up and organizing my room when he is my TA, making a new calendar, and just stopping in before or after school to say hello. He also bought fall/Halloween supplies before school to decorate my room. He even bought Halloween pencils and candy for my classes. Lincoln is a great kid, and I appreciate his kindness every day.”
