Good morning, Eagles:
As you may have heard through the news media, there have been some threats to schools in various areas of the state. We do not know the content or nature of the threats. However, South Putnam Schools have NOT received any threats and will operate as normal. We will continue to actively monitor the situation and provide updates if anything changes.
Dr. Smith
Caitlyn Phillips came to see me, Mrs. Tona Gardner, a couple of months ago. She had an idea. She wanted to help organize a book fair for our school. She had positive memories of attending book fairs, and she wanted to do something for the students of South Putnam. She contacted Scholastic and recruited Mrs. Bye to be her staff sponsor. Thank you to Caitlyn Phillips for her ingenuity and determination all along the way to get this done! Thank you Mrs. Bye for giving her time and effort to help make this happen too.
Dixie Chopper representatives presented to interested students today as a speaker in the SPHS Options Program sponsored employment series. Wes Evans - Business Unit Mgr., Lisa Tubb’s - President, & Eli Kean - Marketing Mgr reviewed the local company’s rich history and changes (including bringing production back to the area), future projected growth, job needs, and employee cultivation with tuition reimbursement. They discussed opportunities currently available and values of a successful employee. Thank you for their time sharing this valuable information with our students.

Our girls tennis team takes on Greencastle tonight at home. Good luck to the lady eagles.
Congratulations to Dunkin York who is a Finalist in the 2023 Competition for National Merit Scholarship awards. Dunkin is an extraordinary academic who will be earning 55 dual credits while here at South Putnam. He stays busy outside the classroom too. For example, he is currently running track,
and he just completed a guitar-playing, gun-slinging role as Jack Oglesby in the spring play The Death and Life of Sneaky Fitch.
Assistant Principals John Skomp and Kevin Rounds make us proud! They work long hours and do so with patience and persistence. They never quite know what their day may hold. They sometimes have to deliver hard news or say "no." But they also encourage students, promote forgiveness, build solutions and set up and supervise events. Their work keeps our students safe and makes school happen. Thank you John and Kevin and happy National Assistant Principals Week!
It was a busy night at South Putnam with home baseball, softball and track! It was a great opportunity to see a lot of our spring athletes compete!
It is a rough moment as a teacher when you realize you have a flat tire at school, but Mrs. Bye's night got a whole lot better when a student stopped and helped! You are awesome, Brock Heavin!
The South Putnam Middle School Band Program is looking for students currently in 5th grade to Be Part of the Band. Students interested in joining the Band Program need to attend the Instrument Testing Open House on Wednesday, April 12th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the South Putnam Middle School/High School Cafeteria. During the event, students will have a chance to try out instruments, rent an instrument, and sign up for band. Students will be able to enroll in the Band Program on one of the following instruments; Flute, Clarinet, Trumpet, Trombone, or Euphonium/Baritone. In the interest of space, we ask that only the student and one parent/guardian attend the open house if possible. Questions should be directed to the Band Director, Thomas Champion, at tchampion@sputnam.k12.in.us. Visit our website (www.southputmusic.com) for more information.
Congratulations to Mr. Champion and the cast of the Spring Play! They put on two excellent productions this weekend! What a talented and hard working group led by a strong group of seniors!
I had a surprise when I tried to go into my office this morning. I was pranked. I accidentally baited Mr. Clark and Mr. Welti this week when I wrote in an email that they couldn't prank me because April 1st is on the weekend. Apparently they do not feel bound by dates in the calendar :)
Thank you Karen Heavin for organizing community partners to come and allow our seniors to practice their interview skills.
Congratulations to our All A Honor Roll students for the 3rd nine weeks. They earned a Chick-fil-a lunch for all their hard work.
Thank you to the members of the Student Council for their work coordinating the blood drive today! Thank you also to all the people who donated.
The Spring Play is almost here! Come out tomorrow night at 7:30 or Saturday at 2:00 p.m. to see The Death and Life of Sneaky Fitch.
Do you know that South Putnam is the only school in Putnam County who offers the ICC (Indiana College Core)? Students can earn 30 or more college credits while taking classes at South Putnam. These credits transfer to any Indiana public college or university. Currently 17 South Putnam seniors are on track to earn the ICC. Thank you to our partner Ivy Tech, and thank you to our hard working and dedicated South Putnam teachers who teach these classes.
Thank you to Carrie Thompson (South Putnam alum and Recruitment Coordinator) and Derek Smith (Training Administrator) who both visited today from Crown Equipment and shared information about their company, expectations, video/ visuals of different positions, training and pay rate for positions.
They will be conducting open interviews on April 11th from noon to 5 pm at the Greencastle plant. Thank you to Mr. Broc Leslie for setting up this visit.
