ABOUT US

The South Putnam Counseling, College and Career Student Center is here to answer students' questions and build their academic, social and career potential.  We use guidance curriculum to serve all students in grades 6-12.  In the Student Center we work with students individually, in small groups, in classrooms and through grade-level-wide meetings.  We partner with students, parents, teachers, administrators and community partners to help students build skills that will serve them in the 21st Century workforce and community.  We assist student with academic planning, career interest and path investigation and with the college or vocational education search and application process.  Additionally, we help with scholarship and financial aid search and application. Our staff also serves students by assisting them with life skills and aiding them through difficult social and emotional situations.  We use school and student data to focus our services and partner with others to ensure that our students have access to an integrated support network.

OUR BELIEFS

  • We believe that all students can achieve college and career success.

  • We believe that students' developmental needs can be met most efficiently through a comprehensive school counseling program.

  • We believe that school counselors are leaders, collaborators, and advocates who ensure equal access and opportunities for all students.

  • We believe that school and student performance data must be collected, analyzed, and used in the formation of program goals that will promote high levels of student achievement.

  • We believe in the application of the ethical standards put forth by the American School Counselor Association in order to make decisions based on strong moral principles.

OUR VISION

Students will graduate from South Putnam High School college and career ready. Indiana College Core

Do you want to get a head start on college? The Indiana College Core allows high school students to earn 30 general education credits that can be transferred as a block to any public college or university in Indiana, as well as some private institutions. In other words, students who earn the College Core in high school may already be finished with their first year of college at a fraction of the cost. To learn more about the Indiana College Core and put together your plan, use My College Core (mycollegecore.org) and work closely with your school counselor.

What is the FASA?

The Free Application For Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the most important document for determining if you’re eligible for financial aid — money to help you pay for education and training beyond high school. The easiest way to file the FAFSA is online at FAFSA.gov. After you file your FAFSA, your college will be able to tell you which scholarships and grants you could receive as well as how much money you can borrow in federal loans. To find out more about the FAFSA, including what kinds of state financial aid is available, check out Learn More Indiana’s FAFSA guide for Hoosiers.
