College and Career Readiness

At South Putnam, college and career readiness (CCR) starts in kindergarten and continues through to graduation.  Beginning in 6th grade, students participate in teacher-guided CCR lessons through the Naviance tool through which they learn about themselves as a learner and as a future employee.  They explore potential careers and discover opportunities to continue their education past high school.  Students choose from rigorous and diverse classes including AP and dual-credit offerings.  During the 2018-2019 school year, South Putnam is offering 10 AP courses.  South Putnam also offers dual credit courses equaling 32 hours of credit (not dependent on AP scoring) that fits within the Statewide Transfer General Education Core (STGEC).  Students can earn dual credit in courses such as precalculus and calculus, literature, language and speech, biology, and chemistry.  Beyond the core classes, South Putnam offers 18 additional hours of dual credit in courses in agriculture, engineering and environmental science.  Additionally, students may participate in activities such as the following:

  • College tours

  • Senior Fall Seminar

  • Resume workshops

  • Indutry tours

  • Mock interviews

  • Spring Job Fair

  • Governor's Work Ethic Certificate
